SEO & AI Search

International SEO that ranks the right version in every language.

Translated pages rarely rank on their own. We set the right site structure and clean hreflang so each searcher lands on their own version, then research and localize content for how each audience actually searches, so new languages start earning instead of waiting.

Overview

What is international SEO?

International SEO is the practice of structuring and localizing a website so search engines show the right language or regional version to each searcher. It rests on three things: a site structure that suits how you operate, whether subfolders, subdomains or separate domains; hreflang annotations that tell Google which version is which; and content researched in each language rather than translated from one. Get those right and each version can earn its own rankings and leads.

What does an international SEO engagement look like when it's working?

When an international SEO engagement is working, you see four changes: new languages that pay back, the right page for every searcher, a structure built to last and results by version. The live sample below is built with illustrative data. Your version runs on your own accounts and your numbers.

What problems does an international SEO engagement solve?

An international SEO engagement solves the three problems teams raise most often: “Google shows searchers the wrong version”, “We translated the site and nothing ranks” and “Nobody agrees on subfolders, subdomains or separate domains”. Each one has a fix.

The problem

  • “Google shows searchers the wrong version”Missing or broken hreflang means the wrong page ranks, in the wrong language or currency. Visitors bounce, and the right page never earns visibility of its own.
  • “We translated the site and nothing ranks”Translation carries over your home keywords. People searching in another language use different terms, compare different competitors and trust different proof.
  • “Nobody agrees on subfolders, subdomains or separate domains”Each structure changes cost, authority sharing and local trust. Choosing wrong means a painful migration later, so it should be a data decision, not a habit.

What changes

  • New languages that pay backEach version ranks for how its audience actually searches, turning expansion into leads and sales instead of translated pages nobody finds.
  • The right page for every searcherHreflang sends each searcher to their own version, so fewer visitors bounce off the wrong language or currency.
  • A structure built to lastThe right setup from day one avoids a painful migration when you add the next language.
  • Results by versionClicks, leads and revenue are reported for each version, so you know where to invest next.

Translation agency, in-house team or an international SEO agency?

Each option suits a different situation: translation agency only (pages just need translating), in-house marketing team (native speakers are on staff) and Noorscale (each version should earn its own leads). Here's how they compare on the points buyers ask about most.

What's included

What does an international SEO engagement include?

An international SEO engagement includes six deliverables: expansion opportunity analysis, site structure recommendation, hreflang implementation and QA, keyword research in each language, localization briefs and authority for each version. Each one is working material your team can use, not a slide deck.

Scope · International SEO6 deliverables

  1. 01

    Expansion opportunity analysis

Search demand, competition and difficulty for each target language and audience, so you launch first where organic search can pay back soonest.

  2. 02

    Site structure recommendation

A written recommendation on subfolders, subdomains or separate domains, weighing authority, cost, legal needs and how your team manages content.

  3. 03

    Hreflang implementation and QA

Hreflang with return tags and x-default, set in HTML, HTTP headers or XML sitemaps, then validated across every language pair.

  4. 04

    Keyword research in each language

Fresh research for every language: the terms people really use, the competitors they compare and the references they trust. Never translated keyword lists.

  5. 05

    Localization briefs

Spelling, units, currency, legal terms, examples and proof points for each version, so writers produce pages that read as local.

  6. 06

    Authority for each version

Links and mentions from publications and partners that serve each audience, so a new version earns trust instead of borrowing it.

Process

How long does an international SEO engagement take?

The work runs in four steps, starting in weeks 1–2 and then running as ongoing work. Every step ends with something you can use, so you always know what's landed and what comes next.

Time to first results: Leading indicators in 3–4 months

  1. Step 01Weeks 1–2

    Assess the opportunity

We review your current setup, Search Console data by language and audience, and competitors, then rank expansion options by opportunity.

You get: Expansion options ranked by opportunity

  2. Step 02Weeks 3–4

    Structure and hreflang plan

We recommend the site structure, URL patterns and hreflang method, and map which pages launch in each language first.

You get: Written site structure and hreflang plan

  3. Step 03Month 2 onward

    Localize and launch

Research and localization briefs feed new pages, hreflang goes live and we QA every version before and after launch.

You get: Localized pages live with validated hreflang

  4. Step 04Ongoing

    Grow each version

We track rankings and traffic per version, build authority with each audience and expand content wherever a version gains traction.

You get: Rankings and traffic reported per version

Reporting

How will you know an international SEO engagement is working?

You'll know an international SEO engagement is working from four measures on a live dashboard: organic clicks per version, correct version served, hreflang errors and conversions per version. You also get a written review every month: leading indicators first, then the numbers your finance team cares about.

FAQ

Questions about International SEO

Something else on your mind? Email grow@noorscale.com and a person will reply within one business day.

What is hreflang and why does it matter?

Hreflang is an annotation that tells Google which language or regional version of a page to show each searcher. Without it, Google may rank your English page for someone searching in Spanish, or show the wrong currency. Every version must link back to the others, and a single missing return tag can break the set.

How much do international SEO services cost?

It's usually a monthly retainer, and cost scales with the number of languages, how many pages need localizing and whether structure and hreflang changes need development work. Most brands do best starting with one or two languages and adding more once those gain traction. You get a written scope after a free call.

How long does international SEO take in a new language?

Expect leading indicators, such as impressions and early rankings for the new version, in 3–4 months. A new version starts with little authority of its own, so business impact usually takes 6–9 months, and longer in crowded categories.

Is machine translation enough for international SEO?

Machine translation is a first draft at best. It carries over your home keywords and phrasing, while each audience searches with its own terms and expects local proof, currency and spelling. We use translation tools for speed, but every page is reviewed by a native speaker before it goes live.

Should we use subfolders, subdomains or separate domains?

For most brands, subfolders such as yourbrand.com/es/ are the right call, because they share the main domain's authority and are easiest to run. Separate domains send the strongest local signal, but each one builds authority from scratch, and subdomains mainly make sense when a version runs on separate infrastructure. We recommend one in writing, with the reasoning.

Can we target a language rather than a region?

Yes, and it's often the smarter start. A single Spanish or French version, tagged by language, can serve every audience that searches in it. You add regional versions later only where prices, products or regulations genuinely differ.

Do you handle right-to-left languages such as Arabic and Hebrew?

Yes, including right-to-left layouts, mirrored navigation and mixed-direction content. Many audiences search in both their own language and English, so we research each language separately and set hreflang for both. Pages are localized by native speakers, not translated word for word.

Should we redirect visitors automatically by location or browser language?

Let visitors choose rather than forcing a redirect. Automatic redirects can stop Googlebot, which mostly crawls from one location, from seeing your other versions, and they frustrate people who are traveling or prefer another language. A clear language switcher plus correct hreflang works better for people and search engines alike.

Does international SEO affect AI search?

Yes, because AI assistants answer in the user's language and look for sources written in it, so a properly localized version gives them something to cite. Consistent brand facts across every version also stop assistants mixing up prices or services between them.
