Reading your result
What the result means
- utm_source
- Where the traffic comes from: the platform, site or list, such as facebook, google or newsletter.
- utm_medium
- The type of traffic, such as cpc, paid_social, email or social. GA4 uses it, with source, to pick the channel.
- utm_campaign
- The campaign or promotion name. Keep one naming pattern so reports group cleanly.
- utm_content and utm_term
- Optional detail: content tells creatives or links apart, term records a keyword or audience.
- GA4 channel
- Our reading of where GA4's default channel rules will likely file the visit, based on source, medium and campaign name. Unassigned means the medium isn't recognized.

Questions about this tool

What are UTM parameters?
UTM parameters are tags added to the end of a URL that tell analytics tools where a visit came from. GA4 reads utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign to attribute traffic and conversions to the right channel and campaign.
Should UTM parameters be lowercase?
Yes, keep them lowercase. GA4 treats Facebook, facebook and FACEBOOK as three different sources, which splits your reports and makes campaigns look smaller than they are.
Do I need UTM tags for Google Ads?
No, not if auto-tagging is on, because Google Ads passes its own click ID to GA4 with richer data. Use UTMs for platforms without auto-tagging, or if you need the campaign in a tool that can't read Google's click ID.
Why does my traffic show as Unassigned in GA4?
Usually because the utm_medium doesn't match GA4's default channel rules, for example medium=facebook_ad or medium=qr. Use standard mediums like cpc, paid_social, email or social, or create a custom channel group for your own values.
Should I use UTMs on internal links?
No, never tag links between pages on your own site. A UTM on an internal link tells analytics the visitor came from that campaign, which overwrites how they really arrived and skews conversion credit.
Where are my saved links stored?
In your browser's local storage on this device only. Nothing is sent to our server, and clearing your browser data removes the list.
Analytics & Tracking
Want us to fix it?
Clean links are the start. We set up GA4, conversion tracking and server-side tagging so every lead and sale is tied to the campaign that produced it, and your reports finally agree.
